A’s pound out two victories

The A’s won two games during recent Ocean View Little League Majors

Division action as they defeated the Giants, 10-5, and the Yankees, 8-0.

The A’s broke away from a 5-5 tie with the Giants in the fifth inning

to come away with the win. Nick Orendorff singled, doubled and scored two

runs, Randy Guite had a two-RBI single, and Steve Martinez singled and

scored twice to pace the A’s on offense.

The Giants tied the game 5-5 in the fourth inning on Justin Pack’s

two-RBI single.

In blanking the Yankees, pitchers’ Orendorff and Scott Baxter split

the six innings and combined to strike out 12.

The A’s hitting was led by Davey Hughey, who had two hits and scored

once. Michael Peters had a double and Kevin Osman singled and scored

once.

* Dodgers 5, Mets 5

The Dodgers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie

the score, then the two teams battled through two more scoreless, extra

innings, before the game was halted due to darkness.

The Dodgers’ rally started with Aaron Chatigny’s leadoff single and a

Ryan Bautista double, and both scored on wild pitches to pull the Dodgers

to within one. Matt Ayster then walked and later scored the tying run on

Drew Gerardi’s RBI single.

The Dodgers received solid pitching from Jon Grothe and Troy Davis,

while the Mets got a strong showing from pitchers Jon Grothe, Troy Davis

and Scott Melchert.

Michael Cherf had two hits and an RBI, Grothe had two hits, and

Melchert doubled and scored three runs to lead the Mets on offense.
