Vanguard University pitcher Gina Liebengood and Concordia
University infielder Kristin Degree, a former Orange Coast College
standout, were Golden State Athletic Conference Players of the Week.
Liebengood, a junior, had two complete-game shutouts and three innings
of one-hit relief for the Lions. In her 17 innings pitched last week,
Liebengood compiled 13 strikeouts, while surrendering only seven hits and
four walks.
Included in her numbers was a complete-game one-hitter in the Lions’
1-0 win over The Master’s College on April 3 and a 5-hit shutout against
Cal State San Bernardino on April 4.
Degree, a sophomore who last year, set the OCC school record for the
best single-season batting average (.444) and tied the single-season
school mark in stolen bases (40) and runs scored (36), was 7 for 8 in
three Eagles’ games last week.
Degree scored six of Concordia’s 20 runs and had a stolen base and two
RBIs as well. Her best game came against Hope International on April 3,
when she went 4 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
