Prep swimming: Martinovich twins shine

COSTA MESA - Costa Mesa High seniors Wendy and Jody Martinovich
each won two individual events and also chipped in on a winning relay,
but the Mustangs lost to nonleague girls swimming visitor Woodbridge,
105-61, Monday.
Wendy Martinovich won the 200-yard individual medley (2:27.19) and the
100 breaststroke (1:14.08), while Jody won the 200 (2:06.75) and 500
freestyle (5:37.51) events.
Mesa’s Erin Bayes shared victory in the 100 free (55.77) and was
second in the 50 free (25.77).
In the boys meet, the Mustangs received winning efforts from senior
Mike Whitman (100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke) and Steven Thomas (200
free in 2:17.81) in a 108-39 loss to Woodbridge. Whitman went 1:00.69 in
the fly and 1:08.75 in the breaststroke.
