The South Huntington Beach Blackouts chalked up a pair of fastpitch
softball victories over the weekend as they beat Caliente, 6-5, and the
Rip-It-Chicks, 10-5.
In the first game, Shannon Peterson delivered the game-winning RBI in
the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting the Blackouts over Caliente.
Peterson also had a double in the contest.
Other key hits came from Josie Flores, who had two singles and an RBI,
a double by Loryn Kanemaru, and a Katie Hartwell single.
Kanemaru also came up big on defense, turning an unassisted double
play from her shortstop position, doubling up a runner at third after
catching a fly ball with the bases loaded.
Blackouts left fielder Amanda Gayle, catcher Emily Carr, and first
baseman Kimi Thompson also made inning-ending catches with Caliente
runners on base, and center fielder Allison Wyman came up with two key
stops.
Wyman showed her offensive muscle in the second game, getting a triple
and single in the 10-5 win over the Rip-It-Chicks. Kanemaru had a two-RBI
double and single, Carr singled three times, one producing two RBI,
Hilary Pool had two singles and a pair of RBI, Flores singled twice with
an RBI, and Thompson added a single and RBI.
