Jack Schneider, 18, of Huntington Beach, was honored Sunday at a
ceremony recognizing recent Eagle Scout inductees. After eight years as a
Boy Scout, Schneider achieved Eagle Scout ranking, the highest of the Boy
Scout organization that requires earning 21 merit badges, completion of a
100-hour service project and a review by local Scout officials. For three
months, Schneider worked with the Huntington Beach Tree Society leading
Scouts from Troop 319 to plant 55 eucalyptus and magnolia trees at Greer
Park in Huntington Beach. He graduated from Edison High School last year
and is a freshman at Cal State Long Beach. In his spare time, Schneider
rows for the college’s crew club. Schneider came to the Independent as an
intern in October and plans to pursue a career in print journalism . . .
Lamie Boukris of Huntington Beach was awarded $20,000 through Gov. Gray
Davis’ Teaching Fellowship Program, which provides funding for teaching
fellowships to help pay for education and living expenses for full-time
students enrolled in a teacher education program . . . Marine Corps Lance
Cpl. Vincent Evangelista of Huntington Beach completed the Microcomputer
Repair Course at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine
Palms, Calif. During the course, Evangelista maintained and repaired
desktop computers and associated equipment. He is a 1999 graduate of Fountain Valley High School . . . Marine Corps Pvt. Jose M. Martinez of
Huntington Beach completed basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit
Depot in San Diego. He completed 12 weeks of training designed to
challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. He is a 2000
graduate of Huntington Beach High School . . . Marine Corps Sgt. Sean A.
Reardon of Huntington Beach reported for duty with the 1st Radio
Battalion and 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He
is the son of Kathleen and Daniel Reardon of Huntington Beach . . .
Huntington Beach resident Leonie Crouch passed all requirements to become
a certified revenue officer in business license through the California
Municipal Business Tax Assn. To earn this recognition, Crouch had to meet
several years of job experience and attend 30 hours of classes aimed at
professional information and personal growth.
