Boys and girls swimming: Mesa teams lose

COSTA MESA - The Costa Mesa High boys and girls swim teams suffered

Pacific Coast League losses as the Mustangs hosted Northwood Wednesday.

The Mesa girls squad (3-2, 1-2 in league) lost, 97-67, as Erin Bayes

won the 50-yard and 100 freestyle and Jody Martinovich won the 200 and

500 freestyle.

Last week, Bayes set school records in the 50 freestyle (55.71) and

the 100 freestyle (55.71), Mustangs Coach Kathie LeCours said.

The Costa Mesa boys team (0-5, 0-2) lost, 119-30, as Mike Whitman won

the 100 breaststroke (1:08.59) and finished second in the 200 individual

medley (2:12.01). Steven Thomas grabbed third-place finishes in the 50

freestyle (26.61) and the 200 freestyle (2:16.95).

The Mustangs will host Woodbridge in a nonleague meet Monday at 3:15

p.m.
