Prep softball: Mustangs shut down Eagles
COSTA MESA - Costa Mesa High’s Katy Renish, Jennifer Jordan and
Cara Molter knocked a home run each to lead the visiting Mustangs’
softball team to a 13-1 Pacific Coast League opening victory over
crosstown rival Estancia.
Renish, a sophomore, went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs
scored. She pounded a three-run homer, her first of the season, in the
fifth inning as the Mustangs pulled away. Jordan, a sophomore, and
Molter, a senior, blasted a solo home run each, their first homers of the
season.
Mesa junior pitcher Tess Lindsay struck out four, scattered six hits
and allowed one run in seven innings.
Eagles’ senior catcher Stefanie Cachola finished 2 for 3 and had one
RBI. Estancia fell to 1-5 overall, 0-1 in league.
The Mustangs (6-6-1, 1-0) will meet University, Thursday at 3:15 p.m.,
at TeWinkle Park.
