Fountain Valley takes third

Fountain Valley’s eighth-grade boys’ Basketball team clinched third
place at the National Junior Basketball Sectional All-star Tournament by
defeating Lake Elsinore, 70-55.
Guard Robert Hansen scored a game-high 19 points and center Scott
Grant added 17 points and dominated the boards with 11 rebounds as
Fountain Valley broke away from a third quarter tie.
Forward Matt Derocili scored eight points and had a big game
defensively with three blocks and two steals. Jeremy Johnson scored eight
points and had five rebounds, Viet Nguyen scored eight points and made
several key free throws in the final minutes and Chris Debowski, Ahmad
Abdelmuti, Derek Kramer and Alexis Chorn all played outstanding defense
in helping Fountain Valley advance to the upcoming national tournament.
In the semifinal round, Fountain Valley was upended by East Anaheim,
which rallied from a 24-17 halftime deficit to post a 52-44 victory.
Hansen scored 15 points and Grant had 12 points and eight rebounds in the
loss.
