The Longboard Restaurant & Pub came out on top during the 2nd annual
Huntington Beach Restaurant Olympics on Saturday.
One of 14 participating restaurant teams, Longboard was the overall
winner of the competition, which was designed to provide a fun and
competitive environment for city eateries while also promoting local
businesses.
A team of employees from Gallagher’s, Crabby Kenny’s and Ibiza
restaurants placed second, with B.J.’s Huntington Beach coming in third.
The teams competed in five events, including a chowder taste-off,
waiter/waitress relay, table setting, bread toss, sand surfing and clean
water relay.
Longboard won both relays and the table setting events, with B.J.
Pizza clinching the bread toss and Chimayo’s nabbing fist in sand
surfing.
Prizes were also awarded for best dressed and team spirit, with judges
supplied by 24 Hour Fitness. The event was jointly sponsored by the
city’s restaurant association and visitors bureau.
$10,000 raised for library wing
The Huntington Beach Restaurant Assn.’s Taste of Huntington Beach
raised more than $10,000 for the children’s wing of the Huntington Beach
Central Library.
The event, which was held Sunday, drew more than 700 to the Waterfront
Hilton Beach Resort and featured cuisine and wine tasting from 35 area
restaurants and 20 wineries.
Association officials plan to make the fund-raiser an annual event to
accompany the city’s Restaurant Olympics.
