Boys Volleyball: CdM overcomes injuries, wins
LAGUNA BEACH - Three starters missed practice Tuesday, but the
Corona del Mar High boys volleyball team still swept host Laguna Beach,
15-9, 15-4, 15-0, in a Pacific Coast League opener Wednesday.
CdM’s 6-foot-3 senior Brian Gallagher led with 16 kills, three blocks
and five digs. Senior Charlie Alshuler recorded 15 kills, four blocks and
five digs for the Sea Kings (2-2, 1-0 in league), while senior Garrett
Macklin had 12 kills and three blocks.
“We had only eight guys at practice (Tuesday),” CdM Coach Steve Conti
said. “Playing on the road with some injuries that we’re dealing ... this
is a good win.”
CdM junior John Grod, who tweaked his ankle in Tuesday’s practice,
managed to finish with 10 kills and five digs. Senior Pat Flynn turned in
59 assists, three aces and nine digs.
Laguna Beach fell to 2-6 overall, 0-1 in league.
