Prep softball: Mesa’s comeback denied

COSTA MESA - The Costa Mesa High softball team nearly came back,
but fell, 7-6, to visiting Capistrano Valley Christian in a nonleague
game Wednesday.
Mesa’s Cassandra John, called up from the junior varsity, smacked a
three-run homer with no outs in the bottom of the seventh and pulled the
Mustangs to within one. But, they would get no closer.
Mesa was also done in by 10 errors.
“I never had that in my entire career of coaching,” said Mustangs
Coach Rick Buonarigo, who has been coaching for 18 years.
The Mustangs (5-5-1) return to action against St. John’s, Saturday at
11 a.m., at the Rialto Invitational.
