APPOINTING A DISTRICT AUDITOR
The district is required by the state education code to select a
district auditor before April 1. For the past nine years, Varvrinek,
Trine, Day and Co., certified public accountants, has been retained.
What to expect: Although three proposals were submitted to the
district, the district audit committee has recommended the school board
enter into a three-year contract with the same firm used for the last
nine years. The contract, which trustees will consider approving, will
cost $32,000 in the first year, $33,500 in the second and $35,000 in the
third.
ENROLLMENT PROJECTIONS
Each spring, district staff update the projected student enrollment in
the district for the upcoming five years. These numbers are used for the
preliminary budget, housing and staffing considerations. The projections
are prepared by an outside demographer who will update the numbers again
after intra-district transfers in mid-April and then again in August
before school opens.
What to expect: District staff will present the information to the
school board.
PLANNING MEASURE A REPAIRS
Now that the project management firm has been chosen to oversee the
$163-million school repairs, the first phase of the project will begin.
It will include the establishment of a detailed schedule and budget.
What to expect: The board of education must appoint a board
subcommittee to work with the citizen’s oversight subcommittee and
project managers on the schedule and budget.
