It promises to be a gorgeous day for Newport Beach surfers today,
according to forecasters.
Waves could reach a height of 8 feet in some areas, according to Frank
O’Leary, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in San Diego.
“We’ve issued a heavy surf advisory for Orange County and San Diego
beaches,” he said.
While things may look better in some areas, surfers may want to
exercise caution in others, O’Leary said.
“You have to watch out for rip currents that could be pretty scary,”
he said. “And guys fishing on the rocks may want to think twice.”
But Newport Beach Lifeguard Capt. Jim Turner believes it’s going to be
a field day for surfers.
“I think we’re going to have wonderful surf,” he said. “It’s things
like this that make people want to live here.”
