Baseball: Lions split with Biola

LA MIRADA - The Vanguard University baseball team split its

doubleheader with national powerhouse Biola, losing the first game, 10-4,

before pulling out a 14-8 thriller in the nightcap.

In Game 2, with the score tied, 1-1, both teams scored a combined 20

runs in last two innings. Fortunately for the Lions (19-11, 8-6 in

conference), they scored 13 of those runs to prevail.

After a five-run sixth inning gave the Lions a 6-1 lead, host Biola

stormed right back with six run for a 7-6 advantage.

Vanguard answered the Eagles run spurt with eight runs, thanks to

three walks, three hit batsmen and three hits.

Chad Chop went 2 for 5 with two home runs and three RBIs, while Mike

Bair and Timothy Jara also drove in three runs.

The Eagles, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA national polls, drops to 22-4,

12-3.
