Boys Swimming: Estancia downed, 96-45

GARDEN GROVE - The Estancia High boys swim team lost its

season-opening meet, 96-45, to host Garden Grove, but Eagles Brian

Monette, Frank Gamboa and David Teixeira earned first-place honors in the

nonleague contest Tuesday.

Monette, who won the 50-yard freestyle (24.98), took third in the 100

freestyle (57.35). Gamboa was second in the 200 individual medley

(2:32.71) before touching the wall first in the 500 free (5:56.16).

Teixeira placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.31), finishing just

ahead of Nathan Marsteller and Ananth Varma who tied for third (1:30.18).

Eagles senior Phil Westfall finished second in the 200 free (2:13.22) and

third in the 100 free (57.35). Freshman Kris Hartwell took second in the

100 backstroke (1:23.02) for the Eagles who host crosstown rival Costa

Mesa March 21 at 3:15.
