The Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of Trustees tonight
will decide who will oversee the campus repairs being paid for by last
year’s school bond.
The $110-million bond, passed by 72% of voters, will allow for a major
overhaul of all 29 campuses. It is being matched by $53 million in state
money.
The board’s decision on which project service management firm to pick
comes after discussion by a panel made up of district staff, community
members and members of the citizen oversight committee.
The board also is expected to give final approval to a proposed
revision to its zero-tolerance policy. The revision adds threats,
intimidation or violence by students to the policy.
Unlike the immediate school transfer punishment for alcohol or drugs,
students who make threats, bully others or are violent to others will
face anything from a parent conference to expulsion, depending on the
severity of each case, district officials said.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the District Education Center, 2985 A
Bear St., Cosa Mesa.
