CdM rolls, 3-1
CORONA DEL MAR - Sophomore Nick Rhodes struck out six and walked
one in styming visiting Tustin in the Foothill/Costa Mesa baseball
tournament Saturday, giving the Sea Kings fifth place in the “Foothill”
side of the tourney with the 3-1 decision.
Rhodes didn’t allow an earned run, keeping his ERA at 0.00 through two
games for CdM, which improved to 2-2.
Corona del Mar got all it would need for Rhodes in the third inning
when Jason Savopolus drew a walk and advanced on Billy Eagle’s double to
center, setting the stage for a pair of run-scoring deep outs by Keith
Long and Dave Knecht, as well as Andrew John’s RBI single.
Johns and Eagle were each 3 for 3 against Tustin pitching.
The Sea Kings return to action in a nonleague game against invading
Redondo Wednesday at 3:15. They’ll finish out their “round-robin”
adventure in the tournament on March 26 at Garden Grove.
