Baseball: Vanguard drops two
RIVERSIDE - The Vanguard University baseball team dropped both
games of a Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday to host
Cal Baptist, 10-8 and 12-7.
The Lions jumped out to a 5-0 first-inning lead and led, 7-3, before
the Lancers scored seven of the game’s final eight runs.
In the nightcap, Vanguard led, 4-0, after two innings, before Cal
Baptist scored 12 runs in the final four innings.
The Lions fell to 13-8, 4-4 in conference and will play at Sonoma
State Tuesday, beginning at 2 p.m.
*In community college baseball action: Orange Coast College dropped
its second straight to Orange Empire Conference visitor Saddleback, 15-2,
Saturday.
The Gauchos (15-4, 4-2 in conference) had five doubles and two home
runs, while three Saddleback pitchers held the Pirates (13-5, 3-3) to
only four hits and two runs.
