Obituary: Frank Talley
Frank Talley, a walk-on assistant coach the last four seasons for
the Newport Harbor High freshman football team, who also coached the
Sailors’ varsity softball team in 1998 and ‘99, died early Thursday
morning. He was 52.
Talley, an energetic supporter of Newport Harbor athletics, was
hospitalized with a massive stroke last week. He had planned to come home
Thursday, said longtime friend and Newport Harbor freshman football coach
Joe Urban.
But Talley’s condition worsened quickly Thursday morning and he died
around 1:30 a.m. at Western Medical Center, Urban said.
“He loved Newport Harbor football and he had some special
relationships with some of our players,” Urban said.
Talley, a frequent spectator at several Sailor sporting events,
coached the defensive backs and offensive line.
“He did a great job with our freshmen as an assistant and the thing he
really exemplified was a love for the program,” Newport football coach
Jeff Brinkley said. “Our sympathies go out to the family.”
Talley is survived by wife Sherry, daughters Krista, Tamara, Desiree
and Shawn, and son Patrick.
Funeral arraignments are pending.
