Boys and men’s golf: Tars hold slim lead

SAN CLEMENTE - The Newport Harbor High boys golf team opened a

one-shot lead Tuesday over nonleague host San Clemente after nine holes

at the Talega Golf Course, par 36.

Daniel Kush earned medalist honors with a 37, while Sean Whitfield

(40) George Hanold (41), Andy Crookall (41) and Miller Akins (42)

completed Newport’s top five.

The Sailors are back in action today at Big Canyon Country Club

against Huntington Beach, beginning at 3 p.m.

*In community college golf action, the Orange Coast College men’s team

dropped its first match of the year, a 380-406 Orange Empire Conference

setback to Palomar Monday at Eagle Crest Golf Club, par 71.

Brian Winston led OCC scorers with a 79, while Jake Allanach carded an

83. The Pirates drop to 7-1, 0-1 in conference.
