A pregnant woman was bit in the neck by a dog Saturday on Hamilton
Street just west of Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa, Costa Mesa police
said.
Sarah Atkins, 20, and her friend, Edward Lopez, 22, were walking on
Hamilton Street when two to three dogs pushed open an unlocked gate,
police said. One of the dogs, a one- to two-year-old yellow boxer,
attacked Atkins as the other dogs stayed to the side, police said.
Atkins, who is seven months pregnant, received a bite to her neck and
right arm, while Lopez received a scratch on his elbow as he attempted to
fight the dog off, police said.
The owner of the dogs came out and put them in the house. Atkins was
treated on site and taken to Hoag Hospital where she was given four
stitches in her neck, authorities said.
The yellow boxer was later taken into custody and quarantined by Costa
Mesa Animal Control.
