SCHOOL BOARD WRAP-UP
WHAT HAPPENED:
The board postponed a presentation by Energy Education Inc., an energy
management company with a plan designed to manage energy consumption and
save money for the district. The group has made two presentations
previously about its program, which they claim is risk-free for the
district.
WHAT IT MEANS:
The board will hear the presentation at its next board meeting, during
the second week in March.

WHAT HAPPENED:
The resident-based Investment Advisory Committee presented a written
report to the board asking that it be passed on to John Moorlach, the
county’s treasurer.
The report outlines the committee’s concerns with Moorlach’sinvestment
of the Orange County Education Investment Pool in Edison International
and posed several questions to him.
WHAT IT MEANS:
The report lists the group’s concerns with how the investment was
handled and when the districts were apprised of the investment. The hope
is not to have a similar situation in the future. The board agreed to
pass on the information.

WHAT HAPPENED:
The board adopted the proposed school schedule for the next school
year.
WHAT IT MEANS:
The schedule is basically the same as this year’s calendar, which was
modified last year, with the exception that the winter break is a week
earlier in the upcoming year so that students will have more time back
in school to prepare for final exams. One of the main changes made last
year was the addition of Presidents Week in February, which took the
place of multiple Mondays off.
The district will look at making more modifications next year after
getting feedback from parents, teachers, staff and students in the
spring.
WHAT THEY SAID:
“I have some wonderful reports about our week in February from
teachers and parents,” trustee Serene Stokes said.
