Briefly in the news
A car and bus were involved in a small accident at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday when the driver of the car opened his car door at Marguerite Avenue and
Pacific Coast Highway in Corona Del Mar.
While the bus and car drivers were exchanging information, they got
into “a physical altercation,” said Newport Beach Police Sgt. Steve
Shulman.
“The operator of the car hauled off and punched our bus driver’s
lights out,” said Orange County Transportation Authority spokesman George
Urch. “We don’t like people messing with our bus drivers. They are
important to us. But the bus driver is OK, except for a little hurt
pride.”
Newport Beach police cited the car driver for opening the door into
the bus.
Later, deputy sheriffs assigned to the Orange County Transit Authority
brought the car driver to jail and booked him on suspicion of assaulting
the bus driver.
Striking a bus driver is a felony offense.
