Coast wins, 6-5

EL CAJON - Jennifer Jensen had a two-run triple and made a
game-winning catch with the bases loaded in the last inning to lead
Orange Coast College’s softball team to a 6-5 five-inning victory at
Grossmont College Saturday.
With a forfeit victory over Glendale, the Pirates improved to 5-2-1.
Against Grossmont, Coast took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, but the
Griffins fought back with a pair of runs in the third and two more in the
fourth to take a 4-3 lead heading into the final inning.
In the top of the fifth, Meredith Miles led off with a single, then
stole second and third before tyhing the score on Erin O’Hara’s sacrifice
fly to left. Kim Guillen delivered a two-out, two-run triple to put the
Pirates up, 6-4.
The Griffins fought back again, loading the bases with one out in the
bottom of the fifth inning.
Jensen, however, made a sterling catch in the gap in left-center,
saving two runs amd most likely, the game. One runner tagged and scored
to trim Coast’s lead to 6-5, but O’Hara struck out the next batter to
close out the victory.
O’Hara picked up the win, improving to 2-1.
Miles finished the game 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
Coast’s next game is Monday at 11 a.m. when the Pirates host San Diego
Mesa.
