Unlike their neighbors, Newport Beach and Costa Mesa escaped Tuesday’s
heavy storms with relatively little damage.
While Laguna Beach dealt with a major road closure and blackouts, the
two cities only had to endure a heavy downpour.
Newport Beach saw 2.17 inches of rain Tuesday, and Costa Mesa was hit
with 2.30 inches, according to data provided by the National Weather
Service.
A service forecaster said the area stands a 70% chance of scattered
thundershowers today.
Costa Mesa has been prone to flooding in downpours. But not this time,
Public Service Director Bill Morris said.
“We had quite a bit of rain, but it wasn’t intense,” Morris said. “We
didn’t really have any flooding.”
