Lightweights: The comeback

What better way to revive the Daily Pilot’s Sunday Edition with the
comeback of the Lightweight’s column?
And, in that brilliant fashion, comes a high-powered rivalry of the
Battle of the Bay in girls water polo.
Here’s the first of many articles to feature local high school junior
varsity and freshman/sophomore teams.
Newport Harbor hosted an eight-team frosh/soph tournament, Friday and
Saturday, in which its rival, Corona del Mar, rolled through opponents to
meet the Sailors in the championship game.
The Tars squeaked past the Sea Kings with a 6-5 victory in sudden
death overtime. Harbor freshman Carolyn Conway scored the game-winner,
her second of two goals. Newport freshman Sabrina Cook and sophomore
Ashley Parole scored two goals each and freshman Katie Erickson scored
one.
Sea Kings’ Kelly Kline and Katya Eadington scored two goals each and
Keelan Cuyler had one.
The Battle of the Bay should remain heated in the future as the two
teams played to sudden death earlier in the season with the Tars winning
also.
