Boys soccer: Mesa tops Uni, 2-1
IRVINE - Louis Day and Eli Solis scored goals Monday as Costa Mesa
High’s boys soccer team defeated host University, 2-1, in a Pacific Coast
League makeup game.
Day scored an unassisted goal in the 10th minute to give the Mustangs
(10-4-1, 4-1-0 in the PCL) a lead, then Solis added a goal early in the
second half. Solis scored on a scramble in front of the net in the 45th
minute.
University (8-6-4, 3-1-1) scored in the 55th minute on Jeff Gibson’s
goal. Bryce Sheridan recorded five goalie saves for Mesa, while Uni
goalie Jason Johnson had 11 saves.
The teams play again Wednesday at Costa Mesa (3:15 p.m.) to begin the
second round of league action.
