Girls basketball: CdM hammers Laguna Beach
CORONA DEL MAR - The Corona del Mar High girls basketball team
easily defeated visiting Laguna Beach, 64-10, Thursday night, but paid a
price in doing so.
Senior standout Kristin McCoy (eight points, 12 rebounds) went down in
the third quarter with a sprained right ankle. Her status is uncertain.
“It started to swell up on her, so they went to the hospital for X-rays,”
CdM Coach Elbert Davis said. “She’s definitely out for Newport Harbor on
Saturday and most likely out for Tuesday’s game against Northwood.
Hopefully, we can get her back for the Estancia game.”
Carrie Hawkins and Jackie McCoy each had 12 points for the Sea Kings
(9-12, 4-2 in league). Hawkins also pulled down seven rebounds.
“Carrie had a monster night for us,” Davis said. “She’s starting to
get her legs back and we’re going to need her big time if Kristin is
out.”
The Sea Kings and Sailors play on Saturday at Newport, beginning at 7
p.m.
