Girls soccer: Mustangs roll past Estancia

COSTA MESA - The Costa Mesa High girls soccer team spread the
offensive success around during Thursday’s 6-1 Pacific Coast League win
over visiting Estancia.
Emily Abbott, Mae Powers, Sharon Day, Tiffany Grondahl, Nichelle Janti
and Emily Abbott each scored for the Mustangs (12-3-4, 4-0-1 in league).
Mesa’s Chelsea Soria had zero saves before Janti came in and had two
saves.
“I think we’ve had 13 different people score for us,” Mesa Coach Dan
Johnston said. “That’s very nice to see.”
Karleen Curran scored Estancia’s lone goal, while goalie Asia Ingram
posted nine saves. The Eagles fall to 0-6 in league.
“Estancia kept their heads in the game and played pretty well against
us,” Johnston said. “We really didn’t play that well and if we play like
that on Saturday, we’re going to get beat.”
The Mustangs, ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division IV, will
play at University Saturday at 9 a.m. in a makeup game. The two schools
go at it again on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. at Mesa.
The Eagles will attempt to earn its first PCL win when they host
Laguna Beach, Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
