Hoag revamps its Web site

Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach has overhauled its Web site, adding

information on nearly 900 hospital physicians, health news and links to

prescription drug guides and disease databases.

“It makes the process of selecting a physician a much more private,

convenient and welcoming encounter,” said Richard Doering, chief of

Hoag’s medical staff.

The site,o7 https://www.hoaghospital.orgf7 , originally went online

in 1996 as the first Internet venture by any Orange County hospital, Hoag

officials said.

Since its revamping, “We’ve created a truly one-stop destination that

offers a practical balance of Hoag-related information and medical news

and data,” said Michael Stephens, the hospital’s president and chief

executive.

The disease database link offers information on about 500 illnesses

and conditions. The prescription drug guide link lists 2,400 prescription

drugs and reveals side effects and potential drug interactions.

Sections on the hospital’s four “Centers of Excellence” -- cancer,

heart, orthopedics and women’s services -- also are included on the site.

Online registration for Hoag’s free community education classes, as

well as details on the hospital’s six community health centers, also are

available.

Hoag’s Web site features a gamma knife Webcast, the first in the

nation. The procedure is used to treat brain tumors and other

neurological disorders.

Virtual tours of the hospital are planned in the future.
