Women’s basketball: Pirates dispatch Gauchos

COSTA MESA - Janette Redmond had 22 points, nine rebounds and five

assists to lead the Orange Coast College women’s basketball team to a

72-60 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Saddleback Friday night.

Kristen Urban (Newport Harbor High) chipped in 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Karyn Fierst added 10 points and nine assists for the

Pirates (13-10, 3-3).

Hayley Hall led the Gauchos (6-14, 2-4) with 17 points, while Colleen

O’Leary had 13.

The majority of Redmond’s success came from beyond the three-point

arc. The 5-foot-7 guard was 5 for 8 from downtown.

The Pirates will continue Orange Empire Conference action at Santa Ana

Wednesday, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
