Briefly in the news
One of 76 million Americans face the challenge of caring for elderly
parents. To gear up for the responsibility of providing for the physical,
emotional and financial needs of the previous generation, the Newport
Beach Public Library will host a program Thursday called “How to Survive
Caring for Aging Parents.”
Presented by Jacqueline Marcell, the event will address such issues as
handling an elderly parent who makes unreasonable demands, suffers from
memory loss, is a danger on the road yet insists on driving or exhibits
inappropriate behavior.
Marcell, the author of “Elder Rage or Take My Father . . . Please!”
will draw on her own experiences in dealing with a cantankerous father
suffering from dementia and a frail mother with a heart condition.
The free program will start at 7 p.m. at the Newport Beach Central
Library’s Friends Meeting Room, 1000 Avocado Ave.
