AT ISSUE: New Costa Mesa Councilwoman Karen Robinson has renewed
discussions on the skate park, a project approved in October after years
of controversy and heated debate.
I have been a resident of Costa Mesa for decades, and I am always very
much concerned to what happens in my hometown. I have been opposed to a
skating facility from the time of its conception. I have in the past
debated the idea with Joe Erickson, who I believe was the lightning rod
for this project. The skate park in my opinion is a dangerous sport and
addresses the needs of few.
I would like to see the city of Costa Mesa spend the money and the
effort to something that will be enjoyed by a large segment of Costa Mesa
residents. For example, what about an indoor swimming pool, which will
benefit young and old.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to express my views.

I have been a Costa Mesa homeowner for nine years. Although my son is
in college now and has never been a skateboarder, I am very much in favor
of a skate park.
I enjoy the coastal town atmosphere and think the skate park would be
in keeping with that lifestyle. I myself have seen how the skate parks in
Huntington Beach have provided a lively and exciting meeting place for
young people in that city and would welcome such a hub of activity in our
city. We could then take our place alongside other upscale beach cities
in this respect at least.

Of course we need a skate park! Do we have kids? Do they need a place
to hang out, show off, watch, talk and be together in a healthy forum?
We know that the most amounts of nuisance crimes happen between 3 to 6
p.m. Which people of our community need something to do at this time?
I don’t skateboard, but if I were that age, it would be where I would
hang out.
Thanks for listening.
