Boys basketball: Sailors top Shorewood
SHORELINE, Wash. - Newport Harbor High senior Aaron Yarnal scored
nine of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, including 6 of 6 from the
free-throw line, to help visiting Newport Harbor win the first of three
boys basketball pool-play games, 55-51, over host Shorewood High in the
Shorewood Holiday Shootout Thursday.
Harbor junior Tony Melum added a game-high 22 for the winners (10-3),
who meet Arlington High from Washington tonight at 6.
Steve Young added five points and Jamie Diefenbach four for Coach
Larry Hirst’s Sailors.
Hirst was happy with the victory, but unhappy with his team’s
performance.
“We’re just not playing very well right now,” he said.
