Police seek suspect in weekend car bombing

Huntington Beach police are still searching for the person or people

who blew up a classic car Sunday.

At 5:42 a.m., a woman told police that her car exploded while it was

parked in front of her home in the 700 block of Lake Street, north of

Indianapolis Street, said Sgt. Janet Perez, a police spokeswoman.

Police found the red 1965 Ford Mustang still smoking, with its windows

blown out and extensive internal damage.

Firefighters who were called to the scene determined the explosion was

caused by a bomb and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s bomb squad

was called in to examine the wreckage, said Lt. Preston Linker of the

Huntington Beach Police Department.

The front end of a 1985 Jeep Cherokee parked behind the exploded car

was also damaged.

“At this point, we have no witnesses and no motive,” Perez said,

adding that the investigation is ongoing. “We’re trying to backtrack to

find out what happened.”
