PALM DESERT - Orange Coast College sophomore Nick Burwell sank 12
of 14 free throws in the second half en route to a game-high 33 points as
the visiting Pirates earned an 87-84 nonconference men’s basketball
triumph over College of the Desert Tuesday night.
OCC led throughout, before the Roadrunners knotted the game at 81 with
less than two minutes remaining.
But the Pirates, who hit 22 of 28 foul shots after intermission, won
the game at the line.
“(College of the Desert) beat L.A. City, which was the No. 1 team in
the state, so this was a big win for us, especially at their place,” OCC
Coach Mark Hill said.
Chad Hagedorn had 19 points and 11 rebounds for OCC (6-4), which also
got 10 points each from Randy Libistre and Jeremy Madrid.
The Roadrunners fell to 10-3.
