South HB wins opener, 49-20

The South Huntington Beach Electricity got their 2000-2001 season off

on the right foot Sunday, beating North Huntington Beach No. 1, 49-20, in

a National Junior Basketball girls’ Division 2 contest at Edison High.

Lauren Kaprielian poured in 17 points and Becka Noffsinger and Eileen

Flanagan each hit double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively, as

the Electricity raced to a 31-4 halftime lead.

Jamie Bee and Nicole Kaprielian led South Huntington Beach’s defensive

charge.

Closing out the scoring for the Electricity were Anna Storti with four

points and Melissa Salcius and Danielle Teitelbaum with two points each.

Amy Nunez scored six points and Katie Wexler added four points for

North Huntington Beach No. 1.

GIRLS

DIVISION 1

* Hotshots 29, East Huntington Beach 19

Miranda Baker had 14 points, five steals and three rebounds; Crystal

Perez added 13 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals; and Kim

Rhoten pulled down six rebounds and Krystal Magdaleno and Sade Trujillo

each had five rebounds against a taller East Huntington Beach team.

Amanda Anaya played great defense to lead the Hotshots.

BOYS

DIVISION 1

* Jabberwalkies 56, Sun Devils 37

Matthew Derocili led the way with 12 points and seven rebounds, guard

Tyler Killian also scored 12 points, and Chris Debrowski’s all-around

strong performance included eight points, seven rebounds, and five steals

as the Jabberwalkies recorded their initial win of the season. Also, Jeff

Millard added six points and eight rebounds, and guard Ryan Stehle also

scored eight points.

DIVISION 2

* 76ers 54, Gold Team 31

Daniel Morris netted 24 points with 12 rebounds and four assists, and

Alex Artinger scored 13 points and added four rebounds and three assists

for the 76ers.

* Wolverines 48, Knicks 30

In a physical contest, Drew Gerardi poured in 14 points, Daeniel

Francisco grabbed 12 rebounds and Andrew Abadeir had nine caroms as the

Wolverines improved to 2-0.

* Barons 42, Lakers 38

Stuart Schultz scored 13 points to go along with seven rebounds, three

steals, and a pair of assists; Rick Rea scored 13 points and added three

rebounds; Dillon Gearin scored six points with three rebounds; Jeffrey

Sun chipped in four points with two rebounds and a steal; and Michael Li

and Matt Randol were strong at both ends of the court, and Erik Rhoten

hit a key three-point basket in the final quarter as the Barons held off

the Lakers.
