Ocean View, Fountain Valley to host tournaments
Two early season basketball tournaments will be held next week in the
gymnasiums at Ocean View and Fountain Valley high schools.
On the boys’ court, Ocean View High will be the site of one of Orange
County’s top basketball events, the Tournament of Champions. Beginning
Monday, 12 teams will compete in a round-robin format, each attempting to
land a spot in the Dec. 9 final.
Besides the host Seahawks, schools competing include defending
tournament champion Mater Dei, Compton, Pasadena, Centennial (Compton),
Cajon, Ontario, Morningside, Perris, Serra, Redondo Union and Santa
Barbara.
In girls’ tournament play, Fountain Valley High will host the Lady
Baron Hoop Challenge on Monday through Dec. 9.
The eight-team field includes host Fountain Valley, Ocean View, Mater
Dei, Century, Calvary Chapel, Riverside Poly, Murrieta Valley and
Woodbridge. Last year’s champion, Irvine, is not competing.
Following the opening rounds of pool play Monday and Tuesday, action
will continue Wednesday through Dec. 9, culminating with each
tournament’s championship game.
