Women’s basketball: Vanguard’s rally falls short, loses

COSTA MESA - The Vanguard University women’s basketball team could
not overcome visiting Cal Poly Pomona’s 30-point lead, but the Lions
chipped a bit away and lost their first game of the season, 88-72,
Saturday.
Vanguard’s Kelly Boeke scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, both
game-highs, while Becki Huddle (15) also scored in double figures and had
nine assists for the Lions (2-1).
Cal Poly Pomona (2-0) stretched an 18-point halftime lead to as many
as 30 in the second half. Vanguard managed to stage a small rally,
outscoring Pomona 44-42 in the second half.
