Midget Seahawks (ages 12-14) defeated the Fountain Valley Jaguars in
overtime, 6-0, Saturday to advance to the AFC championship game.
After a Fountain Valley turnover gave the Seahawks the ball in
overtime, Spencer Link plunged across the goal line from a yard out to
give Newport-Mesa the win.
The Seahawks forced overtime with a strong goal-line stand, keeping
the Jaguars out of the end zone with just seconds remaining.
Chris Hernandez then blocked a game-winning field goal to force the
OT.
The Seahawks were led by the all-around play of Wes Presson, Zack
Wishengrad, Chris Taylor, Tim Prairie, Efrain Castro, Matt Graham, Avery
Fenton, Vince Mizurek, Austin Brawner, Grant Casserly, Taylor Young,
Chris Reilly, Armand Lapuz, Eric Bremmer, Greg Minor, Robert Richie, Tim
Bassler and Mike Soma.
With the win, the Seahawks will play the Garden Grove Panthers on
Saturday for the right to play in the 2000 Super Bowl.
