NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High junior Carly Geehr has been
named Scholastic All-American by U.S. Swimming, based on her fourth-place
finish at the 1999 U.S. Nationals in Minneapolis where she clocked a
2:01.77 in the 200-meter freestyle, and a 4.0 (unweighted) GPA as a
student at Harbor.
The combination places her second overall in terms of scholastic
All-Americans selected.
The 15-year-old Geehr, who was sidelined most of the ‘99-00 season
with a torn rotator cuff, is expected to be one of the major cogs in
Newport’s quest for CIF glory this spring.
She trains with Irvine Novaquatics and Coach Dave Salo.
