The city sign ordinance is definitely not too strict (“Candidates
complain of campaign sign limits” Nov. 2). I was driving through Newport
Beach the other day, and I was embarrassed to see how many campaign signs
there are along Jamboree and East Coast Highway. It was ridiculous. Do
they really think we even look at those things? I think it’s great in
Costa Mesa that there are some, but Newport Beach is just embarrassing.

I think that the candidates who are running for political office
should come under the ordinance. I don’t think it’s too strict. I also
feel that when the election is done, they should take their signs down,
not leave up around like a lot of them do after the election.

Welcome to town, Adelphia Cable
I just wanted to say that the best thing I could have possibly read in
the Pilot other than, “El Toro Airport will be built,” is that we don’t
have to deal with Comcast anymore (“Stay tuned for city’s new TV deals.”
Nov. 1).
I have fought with them for years over their crummy service and their
resistance to give customers certain channels. I guess my only question
is: With this new Adelphia, will we be getting Fox SportsNet 2?

Measure F was devious from the start
Thank you for the front page article about Measure F (“Pro-El Toro
forces file additional evidence,” Oct. 10). While I assumed the
initiative had been deliberately crafted to disguise its actual intent of
stopping the El Toro airport, it is nevertheless interesting to have it
confirmed by an anti-airport Irvine councilman. Those who designed the
initiative intentionally added other components (landfills, jails, three
fourth majority vote, empowering the people) because their polls showed
it would never have passed without doing so.
When the judge declares Measure F illegal because it violates the law
forbidding multiple issues in a single initiative, South County airport
activists had better accept the verdict without a lot of negative
rhetoric. Their deviousness has been exposed.
