AYSO Region 97: Blue Devils take care of Surf Riders

The Blue Devils defeated the Surf Riders, 3-1, in AYSO Region 97
boys Division 4 action Saturday.
Preston Davey scored two goals to lead the Devils, while Taylor Friend
added a single goal.
Strong passing from the Devils came from Friend, Jonathan Gordon and
Flavio Cuevas.
R.J. D’Cruz, Taylor Stevenson and Jonathan Sutterfield played strong
at midfield, keeping the ball on the offensive side of the field.
Devils’ goalies Ian Fowler and Edgar Torres stopped numerous shots,
while Adam Knot, Jordan Hovis and Brandon Woods played well on defense.
The Surf Riders were led by Jamie Galey, who scored the team’s lone
goal off a pass from Spenser Smith. Drew Harris and Michael Garcia also
played well on both sides of the ball.
In girls under 10 action:
Newport Breakers 5, Lake Forest 1 - Lauren DeVoy scored two goals to
lead the Breakers.
Kori Erhorn, Amy Snyder and Meghan McMahon added single tallies, while
Shannon Rohan and Sara Gomez chipped in with assists.
Defensive pressure was led by Erin Miller and Maggie Bernay, while the
backfield was anchored by Alice Cope, Kelly Heenan and goalkeeper
Stephanie Nealy.
In girls under 8 action:
In the Wild Things’ game with the Dolphins, Lauren Wertheimer, Mia Van
Bergh and Amanda Peterson sparked the offense, while Hanna MacLeod,
Allyson Parker, Gigi Joseph and Hailey Schwartz played a strong
all-around game.
For the Shooting Stars, in the game with the Geckos, Jamie Darling
scored three goals, while Rachelle Wurr, Caitlin Cohn and Rachael Vensand
each added single goals.
Strong Stars’ defense was provided by Maddie Collins, Kirsten Rohan
and Alexandra Chandler.
