SAN DIEGO - Orange Coast College men’s crew went 1-2-4 in freshman eights Sunday at the San Diego Fall Classic.
Also with strong efforts were the Pirates’ varsity eights, which were
third and fourth in the varsity category.
The “A” varsity, which was third in a field of nine to the University
of San Diego and UC San Diego, consisted of Ieo Shook, Mike McGuiness,
Dan Toth, Alan Twigg, Gints Salaks, Brian Scheele, Lucas Ridinger, Ryan
Davidson and coxswain Sam Yoest.
“The two San Diego colleges used their local knoweledge of the course
to their advantage,” said OCC crew coach Dave Grant. “But I believe we
row much better. It’s going to be an exciting season.”
Coast’s freshman, who left the rest of the field in their wake, were
led by their “A” entry, which won with a combination of Mike Krenger,
Matt Sutton, Chris Bonnand, Steve Wukawitz, Josh Howenstein, Andret
Gorosh, Chris Pope, Brian Sweet and coxswain Raylan Willis.
