Men’s water polo: OCC stuns Riverside in OEC semis

CYPRESS - The Orange Coast College men’s water polo team upset
Riverside, 8-6, Thursday in the semifinals of the Orange Empire
Conference Championships.
John Smalley scored three goals to pace the Pirates (17-12). Steve
Dugger added two goals, while Doug Jacobe, Chris Lancellotti and Jeffery
Sample each added single goals.
Riverside (25-6-1) entered the OEC championships ranked No. 1 in the
state, while OCC was No. 7.
The Pirates will take on Golden West Saturday at 5 p.m. at Cypress
College for the OEC title.
In the opening round, OCC knocked off Santa Ana, 19-9. Six Pirates
scored at least two goals in the win.
