My favorite spot to find the best antiques is at Jefferies Ltd., and

it’s having a one-day-only sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Its

annual lawn sale is held outside its antique showroom, and 10 of

Newport’s finest antique dealers will be represented. There will be all

kinds of unique treasures available at greatly reduced prices on the

lawn, and all of the wares indoors will be 20% off. “If you’re searching

for the perfect fauteuil, or an excellent Imari charger or a linenfold

cupboard, chances are you’ll find it at Jefferies,” says Jackie

Jefferies. “And on the day of the lawn sale, you’re sure to trip over the

The best place to find beautiful orchids is at Green Systems

International Orchid Nursery in Newport Beach. It will be open from 9

a.m. to 4 p.m. this weekend for its first Saturday of the month orchid

sale and potting seminar. Included in the sale will be orchids (vanilla

orchids too), Epidendrums, Anthuriums, Bromeliads, bamboo, Kentia palms

and lots of orchid bark. If your orchid is too big for its pot, they will

show you how to repot it during the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. orchid-potting

Fall Orchid Festival -- co-sponsored by the Newport Harbor Orchid

Friends of the UCI Arboretum, and $2 for others. The event will continue
