Calling ‘em

FRIDAY’S GAMES

Edison vs. Fountain Valley . . . Edison by 3

(at Orange Coast College, 7 p.m.)

Marina vs. Huntington Beach . . . Marina by 4

(at Huntington Beach High, 7 p.m.)

Santa Ana at Ocean View . . . Ocean View by 6

(at Westminster High, 7 p.m.)

And here’s why . . .

Despite having lost consecutive league games four of their last six

games overall, Fountain Valley High School (4-4, 1-2) has the talent and

ability to hold on to The Bell for yet another year. The Barons will need

to overcome several key injuries, as well as come up with their best

defensive effort of the season, if they hope to emerge with a big win. On

the other hand, Edison (7-1, 3-0) has been playing stingy defense the

past three weeks. The Charger offense can put points on the board, but in

a game of this magnitude, just about anything can happen. And has. And

will, again. That’s the beauty of traditional rivalries. Last year’s

game: Fountain Valley 35, Edison 21 . . .

Two teams hoping to avoid the Sunset League basement will collide

Friday when injury-riddled Marina High (5-3, 0-3) visits Huntington Beach

High (2-6, 0-3). Both teams favor the run, but the team that establishes

its passing game best will get that first league win. That said, still

expect both teams to stick to the ground. Last year’s game: Marina, 47,

Huntington Beach 15 . . .

Ocean View (4-4, 0-2) has been unable to get untracked since losing

three weeks ago to Tustin. Mired in a three-game losing skid, the

Seahawks will try to pick up their initial Golden West League win at the

expense of Santa Ana High (0-8, 0-3). Ocean View High should get that win

too and break out of that slump in a big way. Last year’s game: Ocean

View 28, Santa Ana 22.
