Paul Salata, founder of Irrelevant Week, presented a check for $5,000

to the Orange County Youth Sports Foundation in recognition of the

group’s longtime charitable support of community youth athletic

organizations and graduating high school scholar-athletes.

The money represents part of the proceeds from the recent 25th annual

Irrelevant Week celebration honoring the last selection of the National

Football League college draft.

During the last 29 years, the Orange County Youth Sports Foundation

has contributed more than $700,000 in scholarships and aid to needy

community youth sport organizations, including $18,000 to 12 graduating

high school seniors from throughout Orange County this summer, said Ken

Purcell, president of the foundation. Irrelevant Week is relevant.

BREAKFAST ON THE BAY

Friends In Service to Humanity, also known as FISH, will be the

beneficiary of the Breakfast on the Bay, to be hosted by the Newport

Dunes Resort from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 7. For $10 a person -- children

12 and under are $5 each -- you will enjoy a sumptuous breakfast buffet

provided by the Dunes, live music, opportunity drawings for adults and

kids, a silent auction, free parking and a day pass to the Dunes Resort.

Friends In Service to Humanity, based in Newport Beach, serves all of

Orange County with the goal of “catching people before they become

MONTE CARLO NIGHT

People of all ages are invited to join the fun as the Costa Mesa

Senior Center holds its star-studded annual event, Monte Carlo Night,

Oct. 7 at 695 W. 19th St., Costa Mesa. Tickets are $25 a person, with a

$5 discount for seniors and includes a gourmet dinner, entertainment by

the Bob White Trio (formerly of The Platters), opportunity drawings and

$100 in playing chips. Funds raised will be used for the senior center.
