Cross Country: Mesa loses but still improving

LAGUNA BEACH - The Costa Mesa High boys and girls cross country
teams lost its second Pacific Coast League dual meet Thursday. But, Coach
Eric Davies said the team is improving.
“We’ve got a lot of young faces. And they’re starting to come into
their own,” Davies said. “With each race they are getting stronger.”
For the Mesa boys, Irwin Salas earned first place with 17:34. Mustangs
sophomore Zach Powell also finished in the top-10 at 20:03.
The girls were led by Eileen Bello, who finished third at 21:31.
Christine Bjelland, Cara Doone and Lyndsay Gravis finished in the 7-9
spots.
Both teams for Mesa are 0-2 in PCL play.
Laguna Beach won 24-37 in boys and 18-37 in girls.
