The Orange Coast United Rush worked on all cylinders Wednesday,
combining a strong offensive output with a stifling defense to produce a
5-0 Coast League victory over Riverside PSC Power in girls Under-12 club
soccer action.
Courtney Anderson opened up the scoring with a corner kick goal, then
later boosted the lead to 3-0 on a penalty kick.
Anderson led all scorers with her two goals.
Jaque Anderson scored off a Robin Ibbetson assist, Brittany Koster
scored from the top of the box, and team co-captain, Elyse VanLeer,
completed the scoring by maneuvering the length of the field from her
sweeper position, then drilled the ball into the net.
Goalkeeper Tori Rocke recorded the shutout and received strong
defensive support from Amanda Shaw, Amy Staudinger, Samantha Castillo,
Cindy Mendoza, Jennifer Powell, Chelsea Wisdom, and Brianna Baker.
The victory was the second in four days for OCU Rush, ranked second in
both the Far West and Cal South regions.
On Sunday, OCU Rush whipped the Arsenal Red of Ontario, 6-0. Koster
scored twice in the triumph, once on a free kick, Ibbetson scored off a
Mendoza assist, Shaw set up a goal by Castillo, and both Staudinger and
Sasha Key scored unassisted goals to close out the scoring.
Rocke again was credited with the shutout in goal.
OCU Rush has won 25 of the last 28 games it has played, and has
outscored the opposition, 78-10.
